The following I received from my brother who workded on military
aircraft for 12 years.

That is true about the use of avgas as I use to use the stuff in
my TR
out in Corvallis,OR.  The reason you cannot use it on the road
here is
that there is no road tax on the stuff which would raise the
price
some, what, 75 cents or so per gallon.  You can get it for racing
purposes but that requires some paper work of some kind I'm told.

Actually this fellow is wrong about the public outcry of the
toxicity
of lead.  The removal of lead came about because of contaminating
the
catalitic (sp) converters.  It was the car companies that
actually
promoted the use of lead, notably GM, not the petro companies. 
Check
the facts if you don't belive me.
