Hi Larry
My late Father had Costello V8 (pre MG V8) that went trough a police Radar
at 137 mph at 3am one morning, the policeman wanted to buy the car but
wanted to know how fast it was, so with Dad and the officer in the car and
another officer was on the gun, off they went up the Upton By-Pass (for our
British list members). My old dad was quite proud of that car. I can
personally verify that at 110 mph it was a REAL handful! It was fitted with
a factory deep chin spoiler and that was the only body mods.

John, I think the key thing here is "non streamlined". I have heard it said
that the MGB cannot go much faster than the 120mph range then it begins to
fly. Not a good thing at 120mph.

There are plenty of MGB V8s that have enough power to exceed 120mph, maybe
even the 131mph range, if you keep them on the ground. Now, if you add
"streamlining" or ground effects that's another story.

I suppose the bottom line is, with the 4 cyl. car you'll run out of power
before 120mph, and equipped with a V8 you run out of aerodynamics.

In Max's post he said the Le Mans car was *geared* for 131mph, that doesn't
mean it went 131mph???
