First, is it set up for two 6v or one 12v battery? That should be
apparent after lifting the battery compartment lid. It would be a little
odd if it the two 6v batteries had been reversed -- usually, someone who
switches to negative earth will also want a 12v battery (but not
necessarily, I suppose). Second, remember, the battery posts are
different sizes. See if the battery cable that goes to earth (bolted to
the body right there in the battery compartment) is a + or a - cable.
Compare it to the one that runs forward to the starter (the "non-earth"),
and look at a battery to see which one is which. This should make it
clear.
