Sorry, I just wanted to add my 2 pence, maybe a little late.

Maybe a good lesson for all of us, knowing how easy it is to remove VIN
plates and change identities on these little cars... With as much as you
pull your cars apart, this shouldn't be to hard.

I have dropped my business card into holes and cavities on the interior
of my cars when redoing the carpet or panels, somewhere where there
isn't much chance for water.  If you need to identify the car, pull off
the left rear vinyl panel and there is your proof.  Or when you have the
door panel off to adjust the window crank, take a sharpie and write your
name and phone number. Won't help if the car is recovered 1200 miles
away, but if you include in your police report a little personal
information like that, you do stand a little bit better chance of
recovering it.  At least, if you find it in the next town and the
numbers don't match, you can identify it this way.
