This no fuse philosophy is used on battleships. When a battleship goes into
battle they throw switches across the fuses, effectively taking them out of
the circuit. The thinking is that minor shorts will clear themselves (melt
open), if the current is unrestricted. The major shorts will burn up the
wiring, but the headlight/16"gun is dead at that point anyway.
