Wow. Was this on an MGB? I used to do this on my
Alfa, but I must have the "scissors" style top,
because I could never do this on my MGB. My folding
top takes almost as long to fold down as the stowaway
version, and only slightly less time to raise.
To lower, I have to stop the car and get out, undo all
the clips on the back bodywork, then slide the back of
the top out, release the latches on the windshield,
then collapse the top frame back about halfway, then
leave it there and fold the corner windows in on
themselves, then fold the backlight up over the corner
windows, then start moving the frame back again rather
slowly while making sure to roll the backlight
correctly to avoid damage...
It takes a full two or three minutes. Raising it is
quicker, but certainly not quick.
I personally like the stowaway top. I love the extra
storage room behind the seats, and the top and frame
really don't take up much room in the boot. Besides,
with the spare in there, there's not much room to
begin with!
