During the 5 or 6 times I've R&R'd the heads on my MGB's, I never got very
anal about torquing them.  Best I've done is two stages of tightening.  But, I
always use assembly lube.  Only once did I have a blown gasket.  And, that was
a result of a warped head.  Current engine has 11.5:1 C.R. & no problems on 2
R&R's.  (Knock on wood.)
