That sounds like it.  Hey, it looks yellow but I guess could easily be
white (no wonder the wiring diagrams didn't seem to match).

With the red/"white" wire disconnected I get no response when I turn the
key so it sounds even more like it.

So, where the heck is that spade terminal (oh dear, do I have to ask for
photographs again - I am obviously a very "visual" sort of guy and the
only time I succeeded in art class was in paint-by-numbers :-)?
