"Jughandles", they are called. But just to add to the confusion, not EVERY
left-hand turn must be made by turing right...! So, you have to look
sharp. NJ has about the worst signage I have ever seen. 

I learned to drive in Massachusetts and there were several 'rotaries' in
my area. The trick is to remember that YOU always have the right-of-way,
but only if you are either already in the rotary or just entering. ;-) I
still have the opportunity to deal with the Sagamore Bridge rotary over to
Cape Cod every year, where this rule comes into play. Sadly, they are
going to build a fly-over... 

Re: the pumping, I actually don't mind it since the gas is cheap anyways.
And I have found a couple of stations where I can pump the gas intoo my
MGB without a problem. The filler neck is so low the attendants don't
mind, especially since you have to hold the pump handle while pumping....
