Paul: You are correct. I am getting sloppy. 1972 is a global date
when a lot of the Federal spec. British cars converted over. The MGB
did not get converted till the Sept 74 update.

I get confused, as my 73 Austin Marina was running ballasted. That's
how I ran across similar symptoms. I installed a 1973 Marina coil in my
1970 MGB. What really messed with my brain was that Bosch point sets
didn't melt down as they had a phenolic lifter block. Only the Lucas
points would have problems with closing gaps. The Bosch points would
just fry in a short time.
