I used to have a 112 or close to that dB siren on the inside of my CRX when 
I lived in Detroit.  I had a bypass switch because I would actually 
activate the alarm while driving in deer infested areas (there's a safe 
driving tip).  Sadly, I never had the opportunity to see what it would do 
to a thief.  7 years, not a single attempt at breaking in...   ;-)

Another tip would be to make your siren distinctive sounding.  This would 
apply more for a car siren because you hear them go off all the time.  A 
distinctive-sounding siren would immediately let you know if it was your 
car or not.  I assume you'd know if your garage was screaming....
