Phil,
The headliner in my '96 Saturn SL2 gave up the ghost a couple of years
ago. T pins worked fine for a year or so, but as the cloth material
deteriorated the effectiveness of the pins diminished. After reviewing a
couple of YouTube videos I decided that replacing it is very doable for
home mechanics. It is.

Remove at the bits which screw into the headliner, fold the pax seat down
as flat as possible and simply pull it out. It is important to remove
*all* the original foam rubber and adhesive. Wire brush and soap and water
work well. I used 3M spray adhesive and worked the liner material on in 2'
sections (more manageable than doing the whole thing at once). Cut the
required openings and install. Installation is very fiddly, as you'll
probably have to bend the liner to go in thru pax rear door. If the liner
cracks, no big deal, you won't notice with the finished product.

The project took me a couple of hours one evening to extricate and clean
the liner. I let it dry overnight and glued the new liner material in the
AM. I bought foam-backed headliner material from a local craft shop.
Don't try to use unbacked material, as the adhesive will soak thru and
discolor the finished product.

Easily do-able with your skills.

I bought some headliner material from a local fabric shop (~$25)
