Well, since I am the one suffering from the problem of getting into a Spit w/
broken door handles, I will share my method. First, you must know that the
doors work fine from the inside and that I have a 74 Spit. My method is to
first unbutton the buttons around the side which the zipper on the rear window
is closest to. Then I reach over and slide the zipper around from the outside.
>From there, I can lay on my belly on the back of the car and reach in to pull
the door handle. The other day it was raining (great) and I didn't want to lay
on my wet car, so I just jumped in the rear window (perhaps being a limber 18
year old allowed for this) and leaned back to grab the door latch. I felt
goofy climbing out of my car upside down, but I got the door open. Perhaps the
worst part was that while I was upside down in my car, I hear someone walk up
to it and say "Gee, I wonder how little this car actually weighs." They
proceeded to pick the front end up with me in it. This leads to my next
question. After that, I turned the car on, and it was not running well at all.
It sounded like a broken down Beetle, and would not rev above 2000 RPM. In a
last ditch effort to repair it, I turned it off and back on again. It worked
like a charm. But one thing that I have learned about LBCs is that problems
never disappear, at least not forever. Any ideas?
