Sure. In fact, I thought that was the *only* way to do it. I've
never been so lucky as to see a diff with a drain plug.

I'm sure there are other people on this list who have a
My-T-Vac hand vacuum pump:

This thing is the beans, and not just for this task. I take
off the filler plug, insert tube, and then I rotate the
wheel a bit to have the ring gear "take" the tube to the
bottom of the diff. Then I pump away. Takes only a few
minutes.

Reverse the pump from "vacuum" to "pressure", attach a full
container of lube, and refill.
