I also found it to be in the way of my vision when looking at the side mirrors. 
 It also takes up the space that I like to lay my hand on, forcing me to either 
hold onto the vent itself, or hold my arm further back.  

It looks somewhat striking, but it also makes the car appear heavy to me, with 
the chrome window frame occupying an otherwise clean and empty space.

If I were to try to gain scooped air again, I'd try using something like the 
plexiglass wings that are used on touring motorcycles.    They are removable, 
would pull more air, and don't get in the way.

This is an upgrade that has been suggested in the TSSC literature here. gives 
you an extra option for ventilation (why you need it  in a soft top I don't 
know!) and locates the window more effectively...
