The Bentley manual is far more thorough. It presumes you already are a
competent mechanic, and does not hold your hand. It expects you to already
know what a spanner is, and how to use a a torque wrench.

The Haynes manuals does not go into the depth of the Bentley manual. It
presumes that you are a homeowner type mechanic who isn't going to actually
tear down their transmission, just remove it for a shop to fix. It will hold
your hand far more then the Bentley manual will.

While searching Amazon.com and Ebay, I've found two workshop manuals for
a 1978 Spitfire 1500. The Bentley and Haynes manuals are both
available, which do you recommend for the person who does his own work
on the car? Early projects are the rear spring and u-joints
replacement, and the front trunion replacement.

Previous experience with Haynes type manuals has been disappointing.
While they fully illustrate how to remove a wheel from a car, they will
follow up with a statement like "Remove Transaxle" with no explanation
or "This procedure requires the service of a qualified mechanic" with no
explanation of the procedure.

Thanks in advance,
Dale
