Seems to me that one could accomplish this by using a relay that has a
built-in delay circuit. This way, it will continue to provide a path for
current flow for a predetermined time after the ignition is shut off.

couple of minutes after turning off the ignition on a hot day. I thought

I have not rewired either. It is rather annoying for the fans are fairly
loud.
