Hi all,

Let me clarify:

1. Even I DO know that it will not ping at idle.

2. I DO set the timing according to the MG spec using
   a pretty good timing light.

3. I DO NOT care much about the idle, but am concerned
with normal, day-to-day on the road performance.

4. I DO NOT hear my MG ping (at speed, of course, not at idle)
despite advancing the spark .. a bunch.

What does happen is that: after tuning the car to spec, and
setting the advance, at idle, without the vacuum advance
disconnected, using a fancy timing light, praying to the
gods, and whatever, it runs just fine! HOWEVER, if I reach
in, turn the dizzy just a little to advance the spark more, and then
observe the resulting advance, it runs EVEN BETTER. NO
PINGING! NONE!! NOT AT ALLL!!!

WHY?????

What else must be wrong for the engine to run noticeably better
with the spark advanced beyond book? Should I leave it there?

AND .. with ABSOLUTELY NO PING ... AND WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING
AT THE SAME TEMP (according to the gauge)!!

HOWCUM?

chuck
