I have a difference of opinion here.  In my experience, which is not as 
limited as I would like it to be, 2nd gear is usually used for bump starting 
a car.  I think the theory is that the wheels are less likely to lock and 
skid.  I am talking about push start bumping.  

My two pence worth (8 farthings for people who might understand old money)
