Glad the problem was fixed. The oil pressure topic had no consensus. I
believe one manual said that the low limit was 10 psi at 850 rpm idle for
the 948, but most people seem to use 20 as the cut off, which is correct
for a 1275. As to tranny, personally I'd go for the 5 speed, but I'm not
into originality for originality's sake. Would it be possible for you to
test drive a conversion? Ulix pointed out that there is a longish pull
between 2nd and 3rd, but not that noticeable. I drove his car and thought
it was _great_; the 5th gear should've been standard. OTOH, the Mk2 with
948 may be a pretty scarce item. I think you need two Sprites because this
is an unsolvable dilemma.
