shape....
for $700. I bought it as a project and a project it will be. Among the
things I've found on my car that I didn't expect include a 4-speed
transmission with a Hurst shifter. A 61 had a 3-speed out of the factory,
right? I might be wrong. Along with the $-speed and Hurst, it came with a
roll bar, and a bonnet pin conversion. Which sure makes it seem like my car
had been used for racing at some point in it's 40 year life. U.S. issue
Midgets had an MPH speedometer, right? Mine's in km/h. This leads me to
believe it was canadian at birth. If you have any info on my car, or little
things i might want to know before I dive head first into a can of worms,
any
 help/advice is appreciated. >>

Welcome to the list, Doogie! All Spridgets had 4 speeds, so it might be the
stock tranny, but it certainly isn't the stock shifter. If the Hurst works,
you might want to leave it in, but I've never seen one in a Midget before.

What you have is an early Mk I Midget. Ser. numbers ran from 101 to 16183.
The car should have a 948cc engine and sliding side curtain windows rather
than roll ups. It is a car to restore and keep, not use for parts.

You should order the BMIHT certificate
(http://www.mossmotors.com/heritagemotorcentre/htc.html) to find out all the
serial numbers the car came with orignally, and also what color it was from
the factory. Anything on the car can be fixed, so just keep plugging and
posting to the list when you have a question.
