Gregg,

In the UK you would have a contract - especially good if it is in
writing on the company's headed paper but either way, even verbally,
you have a contract.
If they fail to keep to it they are in breach of contract and can be
sued for your "loss" (who says Brits don't sue!).
In this case your loss would be the additional cost that you might
incur getting the car supplied from an alternative dealer + an
"inconvenience amount". They need to be sent a (Lawyer's) letter
giving them the choice - supply according to the original contract or
see you in court.

I think the only exception might be if a manufacturer's list price
change is the reason for the increase.
