Chris,
Unlike wheel cylinders, and Dunlop calipers, the condition of the
bore is of no importance. (Unless it is very badly pitted or scored) A
little bit of rust will not affect the operation of the caliper. All that
matters is the piston surface, and the seal groove integrity. Clean the
groove(s) so that the seal is fully seated. I recommend lightly sanding the
bores with emery cloth. I also HIGHLY recommend removing the bleed screw
and using a bit of old speedometer cable or throttle cable that is frayed
and inserted into a cordless drill, clean the passages thoroughly. (works
best if the drill direction is trying to un-wrap the cable) You can insert
the cable through the line hole, bleed hole, and from the piston cavity
ends of the holes. Quite effective.
The most difficulty you'll encounter is installing the steel dust
shield retainer. It helps if the outer groove for it is very, very clean,
and deburred. I also encourage a very light sanding of the retainer's lip
where it presses into the caliper. I also explained once before a tool for
inserting the darn thing. It's on Gerard's site under tech and caliper.
Take a look.
Good luck. Call me if any problems.
         Peter C.
