A quick, temporary check/fix for low oil pressure is to place a ball
bearing or suitable size nut between the spring and oil pressure relief
plunger. If it goes up, the spring is worn.
There were (might still be) some really cheap made asian imported
springs which last about as long as most asian made stuff, a whole month
if your lucky and only use the car on weekends.
The spring should give substansial resistance when you are trying to
screw in the cover bolt.
If you think the gauge is off, use an air hose set at 20, then 40, and
60 psi and blow it into the oil line to the gauge from the engine end.
At least you will have 3 readings to judge by.
If none of the above help, it's time for bearings and an oil pump.
