Everybody, sorry it took so long to get back to y'all. I had a really long
day today (550 miles and 11.5 hours) to see only two clients. Whew.

Wow, what a bunch of responses. Great lists.

I think what I will do is hook up leads directly to the battery as a few
listers advised. Very simple and no extra steps as there would be in
changing polarity on the truck. It will be well insulated to avoid any
problems there. The inverter is fused, but I will probably add an in-line
fuse right after the battery connection to add an extra measure of safety.
Belt and suspenders, ya know?

What I didn't mention -- and should have -- is that I also will be hooking
up a mini-boombox for tunes and a cell phone charger in addition to the
laptop/GPS. So the 110 hookup is 'kind of' important. I don't recall what
I did before all these new-fangled inventions that we have become so
dependant on. I guess we just got in and drove? I seem to remember, when I
was a kid, being able to throw together some stuff in 20 minutes and jumping
on my motorcycle and just taking off. Don't know what happened to those
days.

Is the GPS necessary? No. It is a toy and trial run for this trip. I bought
it for work to layout trips to see my clients all over this state for which
I think it will be a great tool. Maps are fine, but a GPS will get me to
addresses for which individual maps of every city and small town in this
state would be, and have been, totally impractical. I'm a bit of a
technological dinosaur, but when technology makes me money, I'm all for it.
So there.

Thanks to all who responded, again. Youse guys are the best tool in my tool
box.
