I always try to fire up an old or unknown engine.
Hook 12 volts to the coil, remove the float bowl lids, clean out any 
crud at the bottom of the float bowl.
Fill up each bowl 3/4 with fresh gas, make sure the fuel pump is 
unplugged and/or the fuel line from the tank is plugged up, you don't 
want to pump "whatever" is in the tank to the carbs just yet.
Crank it over, see if it will fire up. If so, watch the oil pressure gauge.
Now you know. If you want, jack it up, put it in each gear and see if 
the wheels spin, this will give you some idea of the tranny too.
If the hydraulics are shot, start it in each gear seperately
to see if the wheels spin. (E-brake off)
