I change the oil in my DD every 5,000 -- it gets more highway miles than
most. My wife's gets it every 3,000 -- mostly in town, short trips to work
and shopping.

My toys don't get a lot of miles on them, so I change them at the end of the
season before they get put to bed for the winter. I do it before putting
them away because the acids that get built up from the combustion process
that gets past the rings will not be kind to the bearings. May as well get
rid of them as soon as you can and then you're ready with fresh stuff in
spring.

You don't change oil because it's old. You change it because it gets dirty,
and it's the dirt particles that wear out your engine. I don't care what
kind of oil it is...when it looks dirty, change it.
