the block will not bore to a 289. The 260 and 289 are similar but different
castings. the 289 is the same casting as a 302 but there are two different
bellhousing mounts. Your car will have an early five bolt pattern. I would
stick to simple things towards makeing the car funtion and be of use through
school. Complete restorations usually run form 30-90,000 depending on the
modifications you employ and the skills available to you.
For certain take out the fuel tanks and crossover tubes. They have a
coating inside that will have deteriorated. You can restore them very
cheaply by letting them soak one at the time in twenty gallons of ZEP
Industrial Purple found at home depot. Buy a thirty gallon plastic garbage
can to use as a dip tank. the dipn tank will come in handy and last for
many months. Rinse the parts and immediately get them to a powder coater to
finish the outside. Buy a pint of gas tank sealor from Pour 15. It is a
slosh compound and will be entirely used up recoating the tanks and tubes on
the inside.

for parts you need. There are about 100 at any one time available.
