2.88 x .8 = 2.304 This is a 20% reduction; 3000 rpm in
4th becomes 2400 rpm in overdrive
3.31 x .8 = 2.648 This is about 10% reduction from
stock gears and will give you better acceleration in all gears.
The Manual list the Tiger drive train and tires package to give 23.92 mph/
1000 engine rpm.
Stock gears at 3000 rpm = 71.76 mph; in overdrive you get 71.76 mph @ 2400
rpm = 29.9 mph / 1000 rpm
3.31 gears would give 20.81 mph / 1000 rpm; 62.43 mph @ 3000 rpm, 62.43 mph
in OD = 26.01 mph / 1000 rpm
Your actual mph is determined by the circumference of the tires on the car.

I have 15 in wheels on my Mk1 and I would like to ask other owners running
15' wheels the maximum size tire they have used. My car doent have flares
etc.
Im also preparing to swap out the 4 speed for a Dale A. 5 speed conversion.
He told me he changed fifth gear to .80 to keep the engine in the cam. Would
one of our engineers take time to tell me what Im looking at rear end
wise(2:88 0r 3.31) and rpms Ill run with each rear end and taking into
consideration the 15 inch wheels. I would have to look at the exact size of
the tires because I dont recall. Ive read the 331 is a better rear end while
using the .80 5th gear but Im not sure that is the case running 15"wheels.
