Thanks Larry,

Just a couple of comments based on your post:

You said: "If I had my druthers, I would have a 3.xx 1st gear, but I just
drive it like a standard MK1 Tiger top loader with 2.88 gears, and start in
2nd gear." I believe what you meant was some 1st gear number less than 2.95,
not greater.

Also, forgive me, but I can't resist saying something regarding your comment
that "...at 1800 rpm, I have 80% of the 357 lb-ft of torque to play with." I
can't be sure what you are implying, but many would interpret this statement
to mean you have 80% of the throttle response you would have at peak torque.
As you know from my previous rants on this subject, throttle response
(acceleration) relates to engine horsepower, not torque. Assuming the torque
curve is flat in this rpm range, horsepower and throttle response will
increase linearly with rpm. That is, you will get 25% more throttle response
at 2250 rpm that you get at 1800.

OK, I've said my piece - now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
;-)

Bob
