That is certainly the conventional wisdom. However, the Derale fan that has
been discussed does work very well. I have personally seen it cure a car
with serious overheating problems (not mine). I'm not saying it cures all
ills but it definitely works well. I have one in my car and for the
admittedly limited (650 miles) I have driven I had zero overheating issues
including 80+ MPH freeway cruising.
I trimmed the Derale fan very slightly and modified the radiator hose
routing but otherwise it fit on my car. I'm using a stock Tiger pulley but
everything else about my pulley set up is not quite stock. YMMV!!
The best part is Derale SS fan = ~$35
Canadian Ford Fan = ~$175 (on ebay)
And yes, I have looked quite a bit in wrecking yards for the Canadian fan
but have never found one.
