Temperature Sending Unit

I'm putting a crate motor in my Tiger and I'm going to use a Edelbrock intake 
manifold. My question is, how do you attach the water temp sending unit? I 
think the sending unit has 5/8" x 18 threads and the manifold has 1/2" NPT, 
close but not close enough. The PO had changed the original manifold to an 
Edelbrock and it looks like he used an epoxy of some sort to seal it in. Thanks 
in advance for any ideas.
