I personally think the 260 engine is an excellent engine for the Tiger.
=20
I'm not sure that a 302 crank in a 260 block needs to be notch but I =
have no
experience with that.
=20
245 hp would be gross hp as was the norm for reporting engine hp in the
60's.
=20
I have a listing for a 1963 - 260/ 260hp engine - dual 4 bbl - 12 to 1
compression ratio and it looks like it has Cobra or LAT 27 style tri Y
headers.
=20
Didn't Doan Spenser have a 14 to 1 compression 260 that produced over =
300 hp
with gobs of torque?

Allan, to be honest, I can't imagine one reason to run a 260 based =
engine
in a Tiger, except if the goal is winning concours. The idea of running =
a
stroker 260 (even if only 302 crank) makes even less sense, as the lower =
end
of the block needs to be machined/notched and you still end up with not =
much
capability.
=20
The "245hp" 260 might have been a gross number, on a good day, with a
tailwind...an honest 245hp from a 260 is likely going to need somewhere =
in
the 6500rpm range to happen, with correlative loss of power under the =
curve.
:)
=20
Just my two cents, but not really wanting to stir this pot-

Hello listers,

I'm one of those folks who appreciates originality.=20

I wanted my Tiger's 260 to meet the originality test while meeting my =
power
demands.

Alas, I didn't have the savvy to make that happen.

For cruising, a stock 260 isn't a bad choice but for performance...cubes
mater.

So my stock engine went onto a stand and was replaced with a 5 bolt 289
amended with a
302 rotating assembly... a 5 bolt 302 so to speak, making an acceptable =
263
RWHP and comparable torque.

Visually, few people question the difference although the aluminum heads =
do
spark questions.

I remain interested in the 260 engine - especially the 245 horsepower
version advertised in period Tiger literature.

Thought maybe a new clutch. =20

Then, valve guides would be a good idea since there is no more lead. =

Is it simply the quest for the most power out of a 260 (only)? =
Or???
>
> The reason I ask is that =
my overly=20
practical, frugal nature sees a well chosen, $150 junk yard roller =
cam 302=20
as producing a similar power result for significantly less =
cost. =20
Now, I do have a 63 Rambler with an abysmal 6 cylinder motor =
(cast-in=20
intake trough). And, yes, I've wonder just what can be gotten out =
of that=20
with modifications. But actually doing it goes against my =
practical/frugal=20
      nature.
>
> Anyway, just =
curious as to=20
why the 260 over a 302 build if power is the desired result. =
Especially=20
with the parts scarcity and additional costs. <BR =
