Subject: My turn at TR6 cylinder head removal

Yes, I'm biting the bullet and trying to remove the cylinder head. The engine
had 76294 miles in 1991. I bought it last September with the 1991 New Jersey
title stating that many miles. You guessed it - the speedometer is broke.

Well, after puting all new plugs, wires, cap, etc., and rebuilding
the carbs, and adjusting the valves, the car still doesn't have that
TR6 get-up-and-go. Did a compression test and noticed that 2&3 was 110
psi and the rest were about 135-145. So therefore, the justification
for at least looking at the condition of the head.

All nuts, bolts, manifolds are off - except for the head. I read some
threads about using rope in the spark plugs holes, but I have no idea
what is meant by that. So I'm thinking of renting an engine hoist and
CAREFULLY and strategically lifting the head out by placing the hook
of the hoist at severeal places around the head and applying a small
amount of ever increasing tension until the head starts to loosen up.

What's the groups' concensus ? If the rope thing is best, can someone
explain in detail. Have others sussesfully tried the hoist mechanism?

                        Thanking in advance
                        Jeff N.
