Oh Christ, here we go. This'll probably turn into a Spit vs TR6
debate and run for several weeks, especially since as we all know,
Triumph owners (including me) are very opinionated about their
respective favorites. Take the following with the caveat that I
have never owned a TR6 and my info. is sketchy at best.

I think it is hard to beat the Spit. in terms of simplicity (hence
reliability and ease of maintenence). You are talking about a
Herald chassis and drivetrain with a sporty body bolted on to it
(of which the entire bonnet lifts off). Since you are looking for
a daily driver that is easy on the wallet, I think the Spit would
cost less to operate and parts seem to be somewhat cheaper than
comparable TR6 parts. BUT, as usual there is a trade off.
Compared to a TR6 the Spit. is incredibly slow, handles poorly, is
smaller, and to some people isn't as attractive either (heathens,
all of them). Despite all of that (or perhaps because of it) I
would go with the Spit.

Look, let's face it, you can pick up a used Spit in decent shape
for about $2,500, drive the sh_t out of it, have a little fun, not
care if it gets a few dings, scrapes and bruises, and then turn
around and sell the beast to someone like me for about the same
price (if it is still in decent shape - otherwise I'll drive you
down to about $1,000). Try to find a TR6 in GOOD running
condition for that amount of money. Moreover, would you really be
comfortable driving the sh_t out of a TR6 and could you not care
how beat up it might get? I think not.

Cheers.
