Hi,

Most cars have two silencers, one in the middle somewhere and one at the
rear. In what way are these different, do they just dampen different
frequencies (and which) or are there any other differences?

The reason for these questions is that I recently changed my original
Spitfire exhaust/manifold with a sports system (GT) from moss. The new
system has to parallel silencers at the rear, so the air/sound only
passes through one silencer. There is no mid silencer. The sound is
a bit rough to my taste (especially when accelerating/motorway driving)
and I have considered installing a mid-silencer, but would like to know
a little more about the subject before I start.
Any information or references will be much appreciated.

Thanks, Peter Thorsen
