After replacing my TR6's acclerator bushings recently with new ones from
TRF, I noticed that although all the play was removed from the
acclerator pedal shaft, there was still some binding in the acclerator
motion. Thanks to the suggestions of a couple of listers (Tow Tweed and
Pete Chadwell) I was able to eliminate this as well. Here is what I did:

I took apart and rebuilt the three ball and socket assemblies in the
throttle linkage. This is pretty straightforward, once you have off the
linkage just take out the tiny split pin and remove the threaded top
socket. The ball just comes out. I cleaned all parts and repacked with
grease and assmbled back together. I did not tighten them down as much
as they were before, only tight enough to remove all play while
maintianing smooth and easy motion. This removed the rough motion and
made everything really smooooth.

The second thing which was causing binding was the excessive motion in
the part called bell crank lever in the VB catalog (the triangular
shaped peice which the ball and socket assemblies connect to). The
shouldered bolt was way too loose and a lot motion was being wasted
there before any action resluted in the throttles. Tigheting this up
with an additional washer solved the problem of excessive motion. Any
movement of the pedal now is almost instantly translated to the
throttles.

Implementing these two changes resulted in a dramatic and amazing
difference! The linkage now is smoother that my GTI (almost). It
requires virtually no effort to press the pedal.

So thanks to the list again. (As mentioned in a previous post related to
leaky carbs, I sitll have a problem which I will describe in my next
post).
