  You are going to have to do this anyways.

  Most fuel injected systems use full loop gasoline lines, there
is a pressurized return line that goes back to the tank.

  The fuel pump works all the time at high pressure. The fuel
manifold on the engine has a regulator that opens at 40psi
or whatever the desired pressure, and it vents gas into
the return line and back to the tank. This way it keeps
adequate flow to maintain 40psi at all times with no
"dips".

  As well, you might find it hard for a "sucker" to get that
kind of pressure. Another reason the pump is in the tank is
because it usually needs to be a "pusher" to make that kind
of pressure at that volume.
