If you take a look at the top spring seats, you will see that they are located
on the front diff crossmember. This is what is supporting the entire weight 
of the rear of the car when it is sitting on the ground. 
As for the rubber mounts giving way...
ppppffffff..no way rubber is tough stuff, remember it is what the tires
are made with.

I'll still jack it by the diff..IMHO.
