I figure it will be a good idea to do a total maintenance check of my TR4
before I start driving it regularly. I still don't trust it to get me
into school and back (round trip, just over 70 miles)

I have a Haynes manual (and somewhere, an owner's handbook) and from that
I have made a checklist of things I should do.

However, there are a few steps in here that may be obvious to Mr. Haynes
and Mr. Triumph Mechanic (circa 1971), but the meanings are lost on me.
Specifically:

9. Remove the plug for the upper and lower steering swivels and fit
screwed grease nipples (if not already fitted). Jack up the front road
wheels and apply a grease gun filled with a recommended HYPOID oil (see
Page 11) and pump until oil exudes from the swivels.

(Page 11: picture TR3 chassis and lube points. I skip to page 13 where
the TR4 chassis is displayed. Steering swivels are not obvious. In fact,
the ref. # on the chart on page 13 of my manual has been hit with a
printing glitch (I think the ref # is 14). Also, they don't actually give
a recommendation as to *WHAT* oil I should be using. Just says "Grease
gun".

Also...

21. Check the level of oil in the steering box and top up if necessary
with the recommended grade oil (see Page 11 (argh!!))

I don't have a steering box- I've got rack & pinion steering. How should
I lubricate it? Grease? Oil? Butter? Suet?

Thanks in advance,
-Malcolm
