I couldn't agree with you more!  My TR6 has at least 2 dozen round trips of
2000 miles or more, with only very few minor problems (excluding Leon's
experiences with it!).  I routinely drive it 12 - 18 hours at a stretch. I'll
be leaving in about 3 weeks for my ninth trip to Florida with my TR6 (the
fourth trip to Miami Beach and Key west - a roundtrip distance of
approximately 3000 miles). These cars are every bit as reliable as any other
car on the road -- keep 'em maintained and they'll rarely ever let you down;
don't maintain 'em, and they will, just like any other car.

I carry a pretty complete set of tools and spares, but so far, the tools have
almost exclusively been used to fix other cars with, rather than mine. On my
last trip back from Florida, I passed an elderly couple standing by the road
as their year-old Cadillac was being put onto a flatbed truck. No car is
exempt, but I have no excessive worries at all about my Triumph or my MG. Come
to think of it, these are the ONLY cars I drive long distance. With the
exception of frequent trips to Atlanta to see our grandson, Christa's Volvo
and my Toyota pickup rarely leave the city limits.

I also carry a cell phone, a credit card, and membership in the AAA!  I'm
confident, but not stupid -- well, not very anyway.
