The "big plugs in the TR 250 floor pans are to seal the jacking holes which
were stamped for use with the TR4 jacks. Floor pans are the same for
TR4/4A/5/250/6. All the TR4/4A/5/250 body panels are the same with only
minor changes in trim. The TR6 has a TR4A IRS chassis and a body by Karmen,
rather than Michelotti. But the tub and many of the body panels from the TR4
(and TR4A/250/5's) continued to be used for the TR6.

So even though the jack changed to a scissors type with the introduction in
'65 of the new chassis for the TR4A the floor pan holes were never filled.
Remember that the floor pans were "punched out" and in order to fill in the
holes, all new, expensive ''stamps/dies" would have been needed.

Next time you get around a TR4 (not a 4A) ask the owner to show you the jack.
It goes through the hole in the floor pan and fits into a bracket in the TR4
frame rail. The base of the jack sits on the ground and a racheted handle
fits on top of the jack. Turn the handle and the jack raises the frame.
Both wheels on whichever side the jack is used come off the ground.

Yes, you can sit in the seat and jack up the car. If it's raining that means
that the time for actually jacking the car up is a dry time. You still have
to get out to change the wheel. But 5 minutes in the rain is still less than
10 minutes in the rain. :-). Cheers.

Last time I changed a flat there were 4 TR6 owners standing around "oohing,
ahhing and chuckling."
