Hi Mike
This sounds like a fuel vaporisation problem, I have had the same thing on a
Dolomite where the fuel pipes went around the back of the engine, move them
to the front and the problem is solved. I think your fuel line is already to
the front of the engine so that won't help much. A temporary solution is to
do what a lot of the owners of modified Dolomite Sprints seem to do which is
pop the bonnet (hood) whilst in traffic to let the heat out, when you start
moving again just reach out lift and drop the bonnet so that it catches. The
problem they have is that the air in hole is larger than the air out holes,
so popping the bonnet allows more air flow. Another trick is the use of an
electrical fuel pump as this removes the pump from the hot spot on the
block. Also if it were possible to create a flow and return system for the
fuel so that the fuel didn't travel slow enough to take the heat of the air.

Graham.
Ps I have seen a Pepsi can used to great advantage to lift the bonnet that
little bit higher!
