I used Hylomar (??spelling)... a blue paste in a tube from Permatex. It does
not harden and allows you to seperate the parts without damaging the gaskets.
You must be very careful to use only a very thin coating so that nothing
squeezes out into the insides of the gearbox. I applied it with a flat blade
1" paint scrapper and cleaned up all the edges.
