Hi,
When I'm not worrying the sheet metal apart, my tranny rebuild is proceeding,
about as fast as my car can go with no wheels and up on jackstands.
With the list help (thanks especially to Tony Rhodes) I passed a milestone
today. The mainshaft is back in, all bearings and seals have been replaced
except the needle bearing in the end of the input shaft. Is this part a
frequent
failure? I could still do it, but it looks pretty good.
Any advice on gasket sealer? The tranny gaskets are all very thin paper.

Cliff,
The best sealing results you will get with black silicon sealer,a very
thin layer on both surfaces before applying the seal .
This is valid for cover,extension housing and front cover. Maximum
seal for bolt holes open into the casing is reached by using copper
washers with the bolts.Don't foreget to seal the plugs on the front
side of the cover ( selector shafts) also with black silicon to prevent
leaks.Do not tighten the bolts immediately to final torque,let the
silicon dry for 30 min.and tighten to final torque in diagonal manner.
