John,

One word: LEAKS.  They are often around the carb shafts, in which case you
need new shafts and rebushing, or around the butterflys.  Sounds like a
rebuild may be in order.  Try squirting oil around where the shafts come out
of the body to temporarily plug the leaks, and see if the RPM slows down.
Also, pull UP on the gas pedal, and see if it slows down.  Sometimes it's a
mechanical hang-up in the linkage.  Also, make sure the choke screw is also
out.

Subject: SLOW DOWN!

I have a '58 TR3A, stock motor, SU carbs. I cant get the idle down below
1600 to 2000 rpm!  Adjust screws completely out, timing good.  Any
advice or suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated.. THANKS!
