Hi,

I think this is the first digest I've read in a couple of months. Wow!

Anyhoo - if your wheel bearings fail tech, try a couple of things. Note: I
used to have the same problem. And this is when I was a fairly active
autoxer in my "street" TR6.

First off - are you sure the bearings are not worn. Just a little bit of
wear can make it tough to adjust them properly. If the bearings are not
worn then...

Next - tighten according to the book. Turn the wheel while simultaniously
tightening the castle nut. When the wheel stops turning, back off two
flats. Pin it.

I  got tired of getting crap at tech and ran mine a bit "tighter" than
that. I never failed tech, but I only got about 5000 miles on the outer
bearings before they failed. I actually used to carry a spare set of outers
(greased and a cotter pin) in my spares bag.

Note: make sure the spindle is okay too - any wear there could be working
against you, and you _don't want_ to use a spindle that's been worn by the
inner races of the bearings.

I never flunk tech now.

BTW, if tech can grab the top of your tire, your car is not low enough. ;-)
Try lowering the car a bit - that'll fix it. Yeh, that's the ticket!
