Listers,

I am happy to report that I successfully operated on my generic OD switch last
night and it has been transformed into a slightly long TR4 switch.

I ended up taking the new OD switch apart by pushing out the fulcrum pin and
getting the lever free as a standalone part. With some tape to protect it, I
clamped into the vise and started bending out the downward and forward bend.
After it was straight... I remove the black plastic cover on the stalk and
reassembled the switch. Voila... a chrome stalk TR4 switch.

It is still about an 1 1/2" too long but it will look close to original and
work fine. It is off at 2:00 and on at 3:00 and straight out from the
steering column like the turn signal. The extra length might actually work
for me because it puts the switch just about 4-5" up and left from my shift
hand.

Has anybody rigged a status light to indicate that the OD is on/engaged. I am
concerned with not totally abusing originality but I would like an OD
indicator. I jewel light in the speedo or tach would be the best. But that
would require major high quality work to make it look right.

One thought is the little hole at the bottom of the dash support just over the
gearbox tunnel. It comes covered with a rubber plug and I have seen it used
for anything. I very small green panel light here might work.

I would love to have some insights on this from those OD experts out there.
