Yes, the Mini was sold in the US, but it hasn't been available
since 1967. Mostly because of BMC/BL's decision to not try to
make the Mini meet emissions. They decided that the power lost
on the emissions would not be able to be made up by enlarging
the engine. They did make the Mini meet the crash tests, as it
was available in Canada until sometime into the '80s at least.

As I thought, the Mini was light ( forwarded from a friend on another
list ).  Was the mini not sold in the U.S.?  didn't it pass the "National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration" tests??

The mini was around 1,400 pounds. The two key words from below are "CNN" and
