Hi Richard
This sounds like the problem I had that finally caused a snapped gearstick
on my Triumph 2.5PI saloon, I think the linkage on mine is similar to the
TR3A. All ideas are from experience with the Triumph 2000, 2500, 2.5PI range
of cars. First thing is does your system use the tapered pin to hold the
release fork to the cross shaft, if so did you replace this as I have had 2
that were broken, both worked to a point but were allowing a change of
angle. Also does your box have little white metal rings for bearings for the
cross shaft, these wear and allow for an accumulation of lost movement. As
you didn't have this problem before you changed the clutch is the centre
plate a free sliding fit on the box input shaft, if not this can cause drag,
also is the clutch correct for the car, some Triumphs have different
clutches on the same model range. One last point are the centre plate and
pressure plate from the same manufacturer, I had a lot of problems years ago
with a QH and Borg and Beck combination, it will work one way round but not
the other, got a complete Laycock set and all was well.

| Art, I read your story about your clutch flex line and I am wondering if I
| have the same problem. I replaced the clutch, pressure plate and throw out
| bearing.I am useing DOT5 fluid and I cannot get into 1st or reverse
without
| grinding the gears(a gut wrenching feeling) . I have to pump the clutch 3
or
| 4 times in order to get into 1st or reverse.I have bleed the system at
least
| 5 or 6 times, using three different methods. I don't think there is air in
the
| line now and I have the slave rod connected to the middle hole on the
clutch
| lever. The only thing I can think of now is to replace the flex line
although
| I did not have this problem before replacing the clutch. What do you
think?

| Need Help,
| Richard
